MA Peace Studies

The MA Peace Studies is an interdisciplinary programme that is a distinct offering for the global market that meets the growing needs for positive conceptions of peace, and recognition of the interdependence between peacefulness, well-being, just society, and the flourishing of our planet. It aims to inspire graduate researchers and practitioners to identify the principles and values underlying positive peace, and to encourage questions concerning the policies, institutional practices, and structural conditions that contribute to peace, well-being, and social justice.

It strives to provide graduate researchers and practitioners with an in-depth understanding of key themes of positive peace, whilst ensuring that the learning is grounded in their professional interests. It encourages and facilitates empirical research that unfolds the complexity of fostering positive peace in a globalised world. It intentionally creates a learning community among the graduate researchers and practitioners, and embeds key approaches involved in peace, such as dialogue, listening, relational enrichment, and well-being sensitive practices, in the process of teaching and learning. The programme offers an opportunity for participants to advance skills and research capacities and to contribute to knowledge about structural peace, social transformation, and community regeneration.

An Innovative MA Focusing on Positive Peace

The MA Peace Studies is the first academic offering of the Global Humanity for Peace (GHfP) Institute which is a new research and teaching institute specifically designated by the UNESCO Social and Human Sciences Sector to implement the UNESCO Collective Healing Initiative. The Institute’s work focuses on positive conceptions of peace, and well-being, and promotes gender equality, social justice, and structural peace. The Institute has been appointed by UNESCO Rights, Inclusion and Dialogue Section to develop a UNESCO Futures Leadership Academy to empower future generations and nurture future leadership towards healing, well-being, justice and social transformation.

At the GHfP Institute, there is a wide range of research projects, community members, programmes, and perspectives that seek to address the big questions related to positive peace, well-being, intercultural and interreligious dialogue, collective healing, community regeneration, and good governance.
